The next year, Frane had matters to attend to in Rijeka, so he decided to travel by plane for his trip. Probably deterred by his train accident in the past, this seemed like a fast and safe option to cover the long distance. Little did he know that this was going to be his first and last plane ride ever. The worst fear of every person who’s ever been on a plane happened: both engines stopped abruptly. The aircraft was quickly losing altitude, and its structural integrity was compromised, too – causing a door to come loose and fall to the ground. As luck would have it, Frane was the passenger who was nearest to the gaping hole, and he tumbled out right before the plane crashed into a hillside, killing all passengers and crew on board. Frane, however, managed to fall onto a stack of hay, practically unscathed!
