The Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg, Henri and Maria Teresa
Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa met in Geneva while they were both studying political science. The noble couple married in Luxembourg in 1981 – they had a separate civil and religious ceremony. They are the proud parents of five children and grandparents of five grandchildren. The position of Grand Duke makes Henri the head of state, and Cuban-born Maria Teresa supports him in all his duties. She is also involved in multiple humanitarian affairs, such as being a special ambassador for UNESCO.
