Danny stayed motionless as the cat inched its way closer to him, and the villagers shouted at him to not pick it up. The first thing on Danny’s mind was to ask them why he shouldn’t do this, but he didn’t feel confident enough in his Spanish skills to do so. He wasn’t sure he’d be able to process the response. Danny thought the villagers were only playing with him since they were curious about the unexpected visitor, so he let the cat crawl over his boot. He next considered the possibility that they had intended to retain the kitten for later consumption.
